How does homeopathy work?

Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body's own healing system. It is based on the principle that "like cures like". A homeopathic remedy is an extremely pure, natural substance that has been diluted many times. In large quantities these subtances would cause the same symptoms the patient is trying to cure. In small, pure, diluted doses, it is not only safe and free from side effects, but it will trigger the body to heal itself.

Can I overdose on homeopathic remedies?

No, you cannot overdose on homeopathic remedies. Homeopathic remedies influence the body's energy field, rather than its chemical balance. Hence, the remedies do not cause side effects since there is no chemical trace to accumulate in the tissues. For this reason, it is not possible to take an overdose of homeopathic medicine in the same way as in conventional medicine (which works on a chemical level).

How do I take the remedy?

Homeopathic remedies come in pill or liquid form. They should be placed under the tongue where they will dissolve. Unlike conventional medicines, they are uncoated so they dissolve into the mucous membranes in the mouth and are carried directly into your system.

The remedies are very clean and fragile, so you should avoid handling them. The most effective way to take them is to drop the tablets into the cap of the bottle and pour them from the cap into your mouth. Certain foods, substances and odours are thought to interfere, or antidote the action of the remedy, for example, garlic, onions and caffeine. You should avoid eating for at least 15-30 mins before and after taking the remedy.

Are homeopathic remedies herbal?

No, they are not herbal medicines, which use a larger quantity of plant material per dose. Homeopathic medicines use a minute dose of plant or mineral substance to address symptoms.

What does the initial consultation involve?

Your initial consultation will take approximately an hour and a half. This will involve examining your immediate symptoms, past illnesses, hereditary tendencies and family history, and your emotional status as a whole. Your likes and dislikes in food, drink, temperature, weather and many other factors will also help to select an appropriate remedy to stimulate your immune system as a whole.
